Has it crossed your mind that the Masoretic text, standardized several hundred years after Jesus, by the community that rejected him, could have been deliberately modified to counter or distort Christian arguments for Jesus Christ? Or is that a so-called conspiracy theory?
It has, and I've engaged with that question a few times here and there.
To put it plainly, yes, I think there are places where it was changed. Or at least they went with a reading that was less explicit. Because here's the thing: there was never one monolithic Hebrew text. There was plurality in the Hebrew scriptures going as far back as we have evidence to trace.
Now, I don't think there were major changes. These were devout Jews who held their scriptures as sacred. They would not have changed them lightly.
And the sheer fact of how many of the readings in the Masoretic Text still point, clearly and obviously, to Jesus makes a very clear statement that there was never an overarching conspiracy to alter every page that could have referred to Jesus.
So in the end, yes, there were deliberate decisions made to minimize how clearly Scripture referred to Jesus, but I don't think these were blatant changes I think they just decided to prioritize the already extant readings that didn't emphasize Him quite as strongly.
