Now I want to do something I have not done in any of the previous posts. I want to stop looking at the trees and describe the forest.
Because here is the thing about a series like this.
Each post asked a narrow question: what do the three traditions do with this chapter? But underneath those seventeen narrow questions, patterns kept surfacing, the same handful of phenomena appearing again and again in different clothes. I would notice one in chapter 8 and then meet it again in chapter 10 and again in chapter 11. Those patterns are what this series actually discovered, and no single post could show them to you, because you can only see them by standing back.
I will never be a Greek or Hebrew scholar but I followed your arguments as best I could. Thank you for making them with such honest vulnerability and care.
I loved your both/and conclusion for a world that cannot seem to tolerate truth in tension. " Manuscripts vary. God does not."
We can trust that He preserves His Word His way and brings all things forth onto the light in His kairos time.
You've hit on exactly the point I've been trying to combat with this publication. Truth in tension is the whole thing. Letting it exist without having to have a neat and tidy answer to everything is the entire point.
Thankyou! I have thoroughly enjoyed following this series, and have learned much from it.
Excellent stuff!
It's my pleasure, Stephen. I'm so glad it's been helpful to you.
